Краткое описание радиолюбительской деятельности.

Александр Вилкс, YL-RS-01, ex: UQ2-22317, UQ2-037-1.

В Рижский Радиоклуб Александра Вилкс привёл в далеком 1957 году его старший брат Вилис Вилкс, RQ2ACR чтобы «послушать спутник». Это дело его очень увлекло. В марте 1959 года он получил свой SWL позывной UQ2-22317 и cтал радиооператором коллективной радиостанции UQ2KAA. Весной 1961 года при Рижском Радиоклубе Александр Вилкс организовал республиканскую секцию SWL (LSWLS) и был избран её председателем и бессменным руководителем уже 62 года. Во время службы в Советской Армии был активен как UQ2-22317/UD6 и оператором коллективной радиостанции Бакинского Радиоклуба UD6KAB. С 1964 года начал сотрудничать с газетами «Патриот Батькивщины» и «Советский Патриот», а также был внештатным корреспондентом журнала «РАДИО» где традиционно долгие годы вел рубрику «SWL» и писал различные статьи. На любительских диапазонах с 1967 года. Был членом долгие годы: Совета Рижского Радиоклуба, членом Президиума ФРС Латвийской ССР, членом Комиссии по работе с наблюдателями при ФРС СССР. Был активным радиооператором международных соревнований на коллективной радиостанции UQ2KAA, организатором и участником экспедиций: 4L3A, UQ2ACR/UA3, UQ2ACR/UA2, RQ2GCR/RA2, UK2GJG/U2F и других. В 1992 году принимал активное участие в создании Лиги радиолюбителей Латвии, избран в Президиум, продолжал руководить секцией SWL. В 2015 году способствовал составлению Положения о порядке образования SWL позывных в Союзе радиолюбителей России (СРР). В 2018 году помогал в создании клуба SWL России (RSWLC.NET). За всё время в секции LSWLS подготовил более 400 SWL к получению лицензии НАМs. На сегодня в эфире работают 42 YL-HAMs его воспитанников. Является членом 72 различных международных радиолюбительских клубов. Соискатель более 33.000 радиолюбительских дипломов, 8 кубков, 12 медалей, более 115.000 бумажных QSL и 75.000 eQSL. Заядлый коллекционер. Имеет огромную коллекцию почтовых марок - более 50.000 штук из 625 стран/территорий мира. Имеет большую коллекцию монет - более 20.000 экземпляров. Принимает участие в работе других SWL клубов – ISWL, SWARL и многих других.

EW4IDP, Кузнецкий Дмитрий Анатольевич, 10 января 1960 г. р., Рязань, РФ, образование высшее (Ленинградский институт авиационного приборостроения).

Первый позывной RA0JBU получил в 1976 году, будучи учеником 10 класса, самостоятельно построив конвертер и передатчик 10 метрового диапазона. При поступлении в Минское авиационное училище, в характеристике - рекомендации от областного радиоклуба указывалось, что является самым молодым коротковолновиком Амурской области. Выход в эфир осуществил самостоятельно, проживая в райцентре г.п. Завитинск Амурской области.

По поступлению в Минское авиатехническое училище организовал коллективную радиостанцию UK2ABG, активно развивая её на протяжении всей учебы. Коллективная радиостанция успешно продолжала работать еще долгое время. Неоднократно получал письма от курсантов училища с благодарностью за создание клубной радиостанции.

После окончания училища, в 1980 году, по добровольному распределению, был направлен на остров Диксон, в Диксонскую авиационную отдельную эскадрилью. Там же оформил позывной UA0BAD, которым активно работал, как непосредственно с острова Диксон, так и с островов Северного Ледовитого океана, будучи в многочисленных командировках на полярных станциях Центральной Арктики.

Участник Воздушной Высокоширотной Экспедиции 1982 года с базированием на острове Средний. В 1983 году, переехавши в Беларусь, г. Гродно, получил позывной UC2IDP, которым, (после перерегистрации EW4IDP), работает и по сей день. С 2000 по 2008 год был председателем Гродненского отделения Белорусской Федерации Радиоспортсменов и Радиолюбителей. Неоднократно организовывал радиоэкспедиции и участвовал в них. 2003 год - EW60GR, в честь освобождения Беларуси; 2005 год - EU5POL/R1Z, российско-белорусская Хибинская экспедиция; 2008 год - UE6MAC/1 – этап радиомарафона Международного радиоклуба Арктика c борта л/к «Красин», посвященный Всемирному Полярному Году; EV5IPY – мемориал Всемирного Полярного года.

C 2000 года член совета МРК «Арктика», пожизненный член Клуба (Member Life). С 2014 года является разработчиком и организатором официального производства серии телеграфных ключей и манипуляторов группы KEYBY: манипулятор «Альманах», манипулятор «Зеро», манипулятор «Lizard», манипулятор «Пеклер», манипулятор «Стэлс», вертикальные ключи «Пионер» и «Эклипс». Изготовлено более тысячи ключей и манипуляторов, которыми с удовольствием пользуются радиолюбители многих стран.

Последнее место работы и должность – заместитель начальника мастерской связи УВД Гродненского облисполкома.

С марта 2023 г. пенсионер. Имеет звание «Ветеран труда».

Get my first F2JD license in 1967 after several years SWL (1963).

Telecom engeneer in 1969 I moved to Kerguelen Island in Geophysics were I was FB8XX during one year and half.

Then TAAF send me with my amateur radio equipment (TR4 Drake…) to Heard Island VK0HM for 2 months.

I continue to work in geophysics research (CNRS) for 4 years (TT8-VE8-ZD8).

I spend one year in 1973 in Niger for telecom’s (was 5u7/F2JD ) for civil aviation.

Then I start in projects for Microwaves links with Alcatel from 1974 to … 2002.

I had chance to stay and operate in ham’s bands generally from few months to years as a field engineer then project manager.

I live in Augusta, the "island of Palme", a town built by Frederick II of Swabia in Sicily (1232). I was born on the 22nd of July 1963 in Donnalucata, a small fishing village in the municipality of Scicli (Ragusa - Sicily Island).

I am currently retired after about 37 years of service in the Italian Navy. I was a Lieutenant (OR-9) specializing in telecommunications, archives and encryption, navigation and meteorology.

I was embarked on the destroyer ARDITO, on the training ship A. VESPUCCI, on the GROSSO corvette, on the VISINTINI corvette, on the DANAIDE missile corvette. I was also a petty-officer in charge of TLC training at the Command of the First Corvette Squadron (COMSQUACORV UNO), petty-officer in charge of operational training at COMFLOTCORV, COMFORPAT and in the N3S section at the Command in Chief of the Naval Squad in Rome (CINCNAV), for many years I was the Archives and Code Chief of Staff of the Navy Command in Sicily (MARISICILIA), first in Messina and later in Augusta.

I have sailed all over the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea.

I am married to Anna and we have two daughters (Silvia graduated at the law university), and Chiara (currently studying at the University of Catania in Communication Sciences).

I have developed this passion for radio and for radiocommunications in general since when I was just 10 years old and I had in hand one of the first walkie-talkie to a channel for CB (27 Mhz). Later I bought my first radio a MAX-21 (23 channels in AM) and a ground plane as an antenna. The passion for DX led me to evolve the station with a sideband system and later (after leaving in the Navy and with the first earnings) I bought a complete Yaesu line of the 757 series with a three element Directive. In 1994 I got a class A license and in 1996 I was officially issued the station name IT9MRM. I have been very active in voice radio and I have also operated from various Sicilian islands (Pantelleria, Lampedusa, Favignana) and from some lighthouses.

I'm Chairman from A.R.M.I. - Associazione Radioamatori Marinai Italiani (http://www.assoradiomarinai.it) and editor from "Bollettino dei Marinai" newsletter/info for Maritime Mobile around of the world.

I've write the "Polar Ships Book 2007" edition downlodable on site www.waponline.it.

From 2013 to 2020 I was not active in the radio and only from November 2020 I started to operate on the radio again only in digital modes. My station currently consists of an ICOM IC-7300 transceiver and an "Extreme Super Wide antenna" by IW2EN, for 6 to 50 MHz.

I received F8DVD in 2002.

Mostly interested by HF contest operations, also DXing especially with polar stations in arctic or Antarctic.

I participated in 8 Polar expeditions on North Pole in the years 1990’s. I was member of a French polar logistical team on ice drifting base Barneo (89° North Latitude).

After that, I operate regular from Spitsbergen island (Svalbard) with call JW/F8DVD (8 times).

I have a second hobby : polar philately. Since 25 years, I am working on a postal history of E. T. Krenkel expeditions.

First callsign, DM4UIH, in 1966, when I was 15 years old, learned the code in age of twelve. My main interest in ham radio is CW on HF bands. I like ragchewing, dxing and sometimes contesting too. In contests, I usually don´t go for scores, but I like operating. Real QSOs have more personal touch. By the way I´m an old-fashioned CW-Op. Use the PC for logging only. My preferred keys are semiautomatics by Vibroplex a well trained fist with such a key sounds like music.I´m a so called little pistol. Never used an amplifier at any time. Run "barefoot" into a 26m end-fed wire antenna@15m, similar W3EDP. With my small set up I have worked some DX and awards over the years.I have climbed up my personal "Summits" the DXCC Challenge 1500 and 5Band DXCC as well sticker 160m, 30m, 17m and 12m.

Since 2014, I´m retired after 46 years in business. All I got to do now is enjoying life with my beloved wife Eva, eating, sleeping and ham radio

Francesco D'Alò was first licensed in 1983 as IW0QEN. He then upgraded to IK0FUX and had his first DXpedition to ZB2 in 1985. From the start of the Ham activity He was interested in DXing and He is CW mode enthusiast. Now He reached the DXCC Honor Roll on CW mode. He likes to visit countries, and when possible to use the radio to contact friends from all around the world. Radio Officer and Electronics engineer.

SWL since age 12. I was "on the air" for the first time in the evening of 26th January 1981 at age 15. The novice license only allowed me to use CW and 15 Watts output on the HF-bands (LB was a novice license back then). First QSO was with DL5JP on 40 meters at 20:05 UTC. On my 16th birthday (sep 1981), I started using LA5EBA as callsign (Class-A license). On 17th October 2008, after 27 years as LA5EBA , I received permission to use my old "vanity" callsign again - still with full privileges.

I graduated from the radio officer training school at age 17 with a Radio Officer 2nd class certificate issued on my 18th birthday. After a year at sea, I upgraded to 1st class. Then, "suddenly", I had to go to the navy and do my service there. I was a radio operator in the Norwegian Coast Guard (Coastguard vessel "Senja"). Mainly in the Barents sea area. I also served as a radio operator in the Army. Both in Bergen and Oslo area. I worked several years in the Norwegian Foreign Ministry as a radio operator in charge of daily radio communication with Norwegian embassies in approx. 40 countries around the globe. I spent several years as a radio technician for the same employer, dealing with communication both home and abroad at the embassies. Total visited 77 UN countries and 93 TCC countries.

In January 1994, I started on a 6 month contract as a weather observer / radio operator at Hopen Island (76.47N – 25.03E) and was QRV as JW5EBA. It was at the sunspot minimum. I worked approx. 3500 QSOs from there. A lot of time was spent ragchewing on CW with my friends on Victoria Island, Franz Josef Land and northern part of Russia. (i.e. 4K2BCA, 4K2BY, 4K2OX, 4K2PGO, UA1ZO and a few others).

I am now 53 years old and work as a Marine Radio Surveyor, performing survey on GMDSS installations on ships. I also do the practical examination of new ROC and GOC candidates (maritime GMDSS certificates).

All my activities and DX chasing has been without a beam. 324 DXCCs and 2417 slots for the Challenge are confirmed. I am QRV more or less every day, even though I am still at work every weekday.... I am QRV on all HF bands - 100% CW. Mostly Ragchewing, but also looking around for a new slot - and sometimes a new DXCC. Having fun with my Begali Paddle, the Vibroplex Deluxe Bug or my straight key...

In 2016, I operated together with a team from Cocos (Keeling) Island, VK9CK. We made approx. 25000 QSOs from there.

When did I become a Ham?

In the age of 16, back in 1973, I became one of the youngest radio amateurs in Germany. During that time the law was strict and you had to be 18 to get a HAM radio license. It was not easy, but thanks to the intervention of our local Amateur Radio Club (DARC Mainz), the officials made an exception and let me pass the examination two years earlier! I was issued the call DK7PE without limitations!

What brought me into Ham Radio?

When I was a young boy I was fascinated about anything regarding radio communication. Even a broken, flashing neon street light could make me think about secret Morse code messages… but I still couldn’t understand them (Hi). Soon I built my first “transmitter”, at the age of ten, out of a battery, a coil and several meters of wire. Not to forget the key out of a metal strip. It was really magic, being heard with a “knack, knack knack” on any AM radio in up to 200m around our house. A new world opened up when I got my first used DRAKE 2-B receiver. Being an SWL and listening to stations thousands of miles away, like King Namgyal AC3PT out of the Kingdom of Sikkim, the voice of well-known Father Moran 9N1MM from the “Top of the World” or the dramatic emergency call of YN1DS after the biggest ever earthquake in Managua/Nicaragua, was so exciting that I spent hours on the radio until late in the night, just listening.

What has been the biggest highlight of my Ham Radio experience?

There were so many highlights I remember, so to mention my TN0CW operation out of Congo or TL0CW (Central African Republic) and many others. One of them was certainly my very first opportunity to operate from outside of Germany, back in 1978 during a four weeks low budget trip to Egypt. There I was as allowed to guest-operate VO1LX/SU out of the UN-Camp in Ismailia/Egypt. It was inconceivable to sit on the other side of a pile-up for the very first time. From this day on, the combination of traveling and Amateur Radio was the most exciting combination in our hobby – to me!

When did I win my first DX award?

In January 1985 I completed my 5BDXCC. This was a hard one to me, because I only had rather poor antennas. But I continued and finally I also completed the 5BWAZ, where zone 12 and 31 on 80m were the most difficult ones to work. With the years I had travelled a lot and had activated several DXCC countries.

My operations were financially limited and so were the locations I could go. Therefore, I concentrated on 160m and of course CW. In this combination there were countless possible DX locations available for me.

I knew the pile-ups from both sides and I thought: Why shouldn’t it be possible to operate out of 100 DXCC countries? This aim I reached back in the 1995 and today I have operated out of #143 DXCC entities.

During my One Man DXpeditions I always had to watch the maximum weight I could carry around. Therefore, I designed wire antennas that fit in my suitcase and were ready to operate within a short time. A Three Element Jumper Beam from 40-10m and Slopers for the low bands were always with me.

What would I say is the best part of being a Ham?

To me, the best part in our hobby is that have a chance get in contact with people in almost every corner and culture on earth. Though we have heard but never seen each other before, we have so many stories to talk about. Due our hobby I have met people I would never had a chance to meet without being a HAM. Amateur Radio gave me a chance to see the whole world out of a different perspective.

What advice would I give to new Hams and those looking to get into Ham Radio?

Amateur Radio can have a very positive influence on your whole life. It gives you the great chance to become a real internationalist and widening your personal horizon, not only geographical and in languages but also in understanding other cultures. To me, Amateur Radio was the best that could ever happen to me. It became to me, literally speaking “A bridge to the world!”

Amateur Radio isn’t a virtual game on the computer – it’s a real adventure! I have many examples where a QSL card opened doors to premises protected like a castle. And if somebody says, why do I need Amateur radio, when I have a mobile phone, I reply: Would you ever ask a mountain climber: “Why do you climb a high mountain, when you can do it easily by using a helicopter?” Shure not! Even though most of us don’t know the feeling of having climbed a mountain, we can imagine that there is something indescribable! And it is the same with our hobby, even in a time of mobile phones and Internet. Amateur Radio is more than talking to someone. It is real and may fascinate you for your whole life. Go and find it out!

What next?

In 2017 I finished working, so I have more time to travel. It is my aim to activate some more DX countries and if I am lucky I will complete #200 one day.

Мартынов Игорь Анатольевич родился 22.10.1954 г. в Омской области. Общий стаж работы в эфире - 45 лет.

В 1972 году поступил в Лиепайское мореходное училище, работал на коллективной радиостанции UK2GAT. С сентября 1975 по 1992 год – работа в Рижской базе тралового флота в должностях – радиоператор, электрорадионавигатор, начальник радиостанции.

Продолжал работу в колективных радиостанций г. Лиепая: UK2GAT, UK2GCF, UK2GWT. В 1980 году получил личный позывной сигнал UQ2GIZ. КМС СССР (1981). В 1993 г. получил новый позывной - YL3IZ. YL3IZ/MM (1995-1997, 2017-2018). Работа на морских судах: 1975-1992 - Радио оператор; 1994-2002 - Radio officer.

После 2000 года, началась эра спутниковой связи с судами. По этой причине сократили радистов на морском транспорте. Пришлось еще раз закончить Лиепайский морской Колледж. И до сей поры работает в должности судового электромеханика. Восемь месяцев в году находится в море, поэтому часто активен YL3IZ/MM.

Bodo Fritsche was first licensed in 1992 as DG1OBJ. He then upgraded to DL3OCH and had his first little DXpedition to HB0 in 1994. He was interested in DXing and activating other DXCCs and IOTAs. Bodo joined the German Navy in 1996 and was based on a sail training ship as a standing crew member. This gave him the opportunity to travel and activate DXCCs like ZB2, EA9, VP9, CU, 3A, IS0, TK and many others. After spending five years at the Navy, he studied electrical engineering with focus on RF. His later job in the antenna development opend new door to make hiss mall DX activities more efficient. A lot of countries were added on his list and Bodo started to activate many IOTAs as well as activate countries for the first time ever via the moon (EME) on 1.3GHz. The real pleasure started when he started a job as commissioning engineer at Ampegon (former Thomson). This new job allows him to travel to DX locations and enjoy his hobby or at least share his experience with local OMs. Countries like 5N, 5H, HZ, 7X, SU, BY, BV, DU, T8 were added and in many cases his work could benefit from the hobby. Now in 2018, Bodo has visited 83 DXCCs. He has been active from 67 DXCCs as well as 53 IOTAs. Besides DXing and a little bit contesting, Bodo enjoys it to play around with big amplifiers and antennas. Bodo is married and hast wo kids.

Dr. Volker Strecke, DL8JDX (former Calls DM3LTG, Y43UG, Y24LN) has 43 years experience in Radio Communications now. He achieved his first Amateur Radio License in 1975. In 1983 he had the unique experience to get a first shortwave HF contact with the continent in the south. It was the russian scientific research station Molodezhnaya 4K1HK in Antarctica.

Since then he focused on exploring long distance DX communications, especially with the polar regions. Only 6 years later, in 1988, he did set his foot on the antarctic continent. In that time Volker Strecke was responsible for Information Technology and polar communication services and between 1988 and 1994 he was member of three overwintering expeditions in Antarctica.

From 1988 to 1989 and 1990 to 1992 he did operate with the call Y88POL from the german research station Georg Forster in the Schirmacher Oasis and from 1992 to 1994 he was active as DP0GVN from the Neumayer II base on the Ekstroem Shelf Ice.

With his work during these expeditions, with many thousands QSO contacts with ham radio stations from more than 100 countries all over the world, and with many presentations and lectures in the later time he contributes to communicating to the public about the fascination and the importance of the polar regions for our life.

A special highlight was a rare HF contact between the two polar caps of our planet. Exact 30 years ago, during his stay in Antarctica as Y88POL, at 19th April 1988, 1104 UTC he managed to get in contact with the drift station Northpole-29 in the Arctic with the call 4K0E in telegraphy CW in the 20 meters band.

In 1993 when Volker was working in the Neumayer II station as DP0GVN he was member of an international radio network with several antarctic research stations, including the Amundsen-Scott southpole base KC4AAA, in order to coordinate a rescue operation for a norwegian explorer group moving on the ice which had an accident in a crevasse area.

In the later years he supported many antarctic and arctic radio communication events, such as for example the Worldwide Antarctic Programme WAP, several RAEM contests or the RAEM-110 celebration activities. He was honoured with several antarctic and arctic awards.

In 2009 together with other operators from the bavarian ham radio district C he did work with the special call DR09ANT in order to support the International Polar Year.

Today Dr. Volker Strecke, DL8JDX, works as a manager for information technology and he is still active in hunting for polar radio stations and supporting polar radio communication activities.

I was born in 1970 and have had an interest in HF radio since the early eighties. Eventually, I received my first amateur radio license in 1986. I got involved in DXpeditioning (4U1ITU, 4U1VIC, 3V8BB, 5A2A, C30EFA, ZL8X and others) and Contesting (WRTC 2000). My hobby eventually led me to a career in electronic engineering. For the last 15 years, I have worked for a shipping company in the field of polar research. I regularly travel to Antarctica and have spent two winters at the German research station «Neumayer» where I helped to re-establish the club station DP0GVN and install a permanent HF beacon. During Antarctic expeditions, I can often be heard on the ham bands signing DP1POL, usually in CW or digital modes. I am a member of DARC (Deutscher Amateur-Radio-Club), ARRL (American Radio Relay League) and NARL (Namibian Amateur Radio League).

I Change with my wife Bigi DE3BWR to near Rosenheim, Bavaria and work there as Mechatronics by Volvo, Renault and Iveco-trucks. Now I´m Aftersales Stock Manager. It is a big honour for me to receive the Krenkel Medal. In Leipzig I could get to know 1961 E.T.Krenkel personally. Also I am proud of many QSOs with him. The yearly taking place RAEM contest is a special challenge which I like to accept with pleasure.

My year of birth is in 1938. At the age of 16 years I learnt Morse code and got in 1958 the first amateur radio licence. During more than 60 years of my amateur radio activity I have experienced the technical and radio traffic development. Thus I always felt obliged to the technical progress and the radio operation in the spirit of the understanding among nations. The mutual esteem is especially important to me.

About 50 years I am entrusted with duties in amateur radio organisations: teacher in Morse code, head of division in the Radioclub of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), contest and award manager in the district Rostock, vice president of the Radio Sport Association (RSV) of the GDR, chairperson of the district Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, member of the board of directors of the German Amateur-Radio-Club (DARC) and now deputy of the district chairperson. The core of this many-sided engagement was and is the mediation of impulses to the active amateur radio activity. Besides, the acknowledgment of achievement at all levels is especially important.

I could reach the most important success with the creation of the legal basis for the radio amateurs of the GDR with the union with the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG). All rights were preserved and the members of the club stations got individual licences.

The board of directors of the RSV of the GDR had organised the structures for the complete insertion in the DARC.

With much political talent the German unity was for the radio amateurs of the GDR as legal well as organizationally had been formed with dignity.

At the age of 80 years I am glad to be able to work still actively for the promotion of the radio activities. The administration of web pages, the management of special stations of the district Mecklenburg-Vorpommern counts to these activities as well as the work as a site manager of the World Radio Team Championship (WRTC) 2018 in Germany.

Telegraphy is with 96% of all QSOs my preferential mode. With 60 German and 30 call signs from 18 countries I have effected about 275 thousand QSOs - of it 45 thousand of the island Madeira.

Contests are now my main radio activity. Besides, is important: the challenge accept and in the pile up to exist and not switch off. With a simple radio equipment I reach the first third in result lists. And, besides, only the half contest time is available to me because I share contests with my wife Rosel, DL3KWR. Thus we both have pleasure in the contest.

Every year we are in the time of the Russian DX Contest on the island Madeira and offer with pleasure the multiplier CT9; the contester expect us. With an easy radio equipment we are present and give to other radio friends an example of radio operation.

The modern electronic possibilities allow recognition for everybody. With the certificate acquisition the protection of traditions is also important. The pennon "Sea Of Peace" has got over all questionings and was in 2018, 60 years old. Proudly I am also on a certificate which the district Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has published on the occasion of "65 years after the licencing of the amateur radio in the GDR". Settled with HAMLOGS.NET (R4AS and RQ4A) everything ran perfectly through the internet: no special application form, no QSLs, no manager, no costs - this is modern amateur radio!

The oldest tradition on the amateur radio is the QSL exchange. These cards are also a kind of personal cards and have with it a special ideal value. But, all wishes could never be fulfilled. Now, because there are electronic ways, this wish would be attainable. HAMLOGS.net and in particular the universal system EQSL.CC offer confirmed data and selfprintable out QSL cards. As member of the board I help the EQSL users worldwide. 60 years ago nobody would have risquély to dream of such possibilities.

Radio amateurs devote themselves more than 100 years to the technical progress. They are pioneers and ambassadors. Now and then widespread reservations hinder the unlimited use of modern procedures. Here we have a big sphere of activity to be able to work for the spirit of E.T.Krenkel.

I received GM3ITN in 1950 when I was 15. Which was a 25 watt licence cw only that was 69 years ago and now I am 84 years old. I also hold the calls DL2YI, EA1DNP and VP8ITN.

My Interests: Gardening, BrownTrout fishing (finding it hard to get up the hill to the loch), and Ham Radio operating, mostly these days on 20 and 40 CW and odd time on SSB, I am not a member of any radio club, Really a LONE WOLF operator.

Over 140 countries worked on 160 mtrs with a TS180 100w and a 100mtr long wire.

I'm first licensed 1975 with the callsign DC4HL (for VHF and higher frequencies), upgraded to class A (for all frequencies) since 1977 with the callsign DF1XC. I keep this callsign until now. My favorite mode is CW and I like mostly DX contacts. During many travels around the world I tasted the other side of a pile-up with different calls (for example 8P9XC).

My QTH near Berlin is in a Flora-Fauna region called “Spreewald” (German for "Spree Forest"). It was designated a biosphere reserve by UNESCO in 1991 (DLFF-030). I activated this region with the special callsign DM700BURG, which reminds of 700 years after the foundation of the village Burg, the main settlement in the Spreewald region where I live.

I’m member of AGCW (#925), SKCC (#5938), DIG (#3272) and vice chairman of QCWA Germany (Chapter 106), member #35901.

In „real life“ I’m head of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Carl-Thiem-Clinical-Center in Cottbus, the largest hospital in the State of Brandenburg. In the near future it will be University Hospital.

Prof. Dr. med. Carl Thiem was the founder of the hospital and introduced the trauma and reconstructive surgery in Germany. He wrote and published 1898 the trendsetting handbook "Compendium of Trauma Diseases depend on own Medical Experience". In 1914 he established a modern hospital in Cottbus for the fast growing population in the age of industrialisation. In honor of his name I carried out the special callsign DM100CTK (100 years Carl-Thiem-Klinikum) in the world. At the open house presentation I installed an amateur radio station in the entrance hall and was QRV directly from there. Within one year DM100CTK got the DXCC and the WAE Award.

First licensed 1973.

Now I'm active on all HF bands mostly as a Dx-hunter.

2010 started exciting activity from the sea as a maritime station.

HF0SEA station was active from different sea expeditions from Carribean over the Atlantic to the Nord Sea.
